The Fontanafredda estate, purchased by the future king of Italy Vittorio Emanuele II in 1858 was donated by him to the "Bella Rosin", Rosa Vercellana, his morganatic wife and later in the name of their children Maria Vittoria and Emanuele Alberto, Count of Mirafiori, he founded the winery in 1878 and contributed to making Barolo famous throughout the world.
